It was constructed as a tribute to the memory of the original chapel in Ainos of Eastern Thrace \u2014 a place that once brought blessings for safe voyages. Its name carries meaning: \u201cEvplos\u201d literally means \u201cgood voyage\u201d \u2014 a prayer for safe sea journeys for sailors and fishermen.\u00a0As such, the chapel is not only a place of worship, but a symbol of hope and protection for all who venture into the Aegean and beyond.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"1471\">Each year, on <strong data-start=\"947\" data-end=\"960\">11 August<\/strong>, the community gathers to honor Saint Evplos the Deacon. The celebrations begin the evening before, with an evening Vespers service and Artoklasia (blessing of bread), continuing with a Divine Liturgy and a memorial for the Ainos ancestors who settled in Alexandroupolis after population exchanges. The faithful \u2014 locals, fishermen, descendants of Ainos refugees \u2014 gather to pray for safe seas, remembering their roots and heritage.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1473\" data-end=\"1788\">Though modest in size, the chapel\u2019s presence at the edge of the harbour is meaningful: it bridges past and present, land and sea, memory and hope.
